Who We Are - About the Research Team
The Johns' Voice research was part of a much larger research project funded by the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and the British Columbia Medical Services Foundation (BCMSF).
This component of the research, focused on clients of commercial sex workers, was conducted by Chris Atchison from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Simon Fraser University. Mr. Atchison has been actively involved in research with the sex buying community since 1995. His involvement can be seen in a variety of published theses, books and articles as well as his participation on a number of committees and sex worker organizations in both Vancouver and Toronto over the past 20 years.
This larger project, known as ORCHID, was designed to understand the beliefs, experiences, opinions, and activities of both sex workers and their commercial partners. The ORCHID team is comprised of researchers from Simon Fraser University (SFU), the University of British Columbia (UBC), the British Columbia Center for Disease Control (BCCDC), and the Asian Society for the Intervention of AIDS (ASIA).
